I was excited when given the opportunity to review “How To Tell A Great Story†Guideposts Writing Course. My blogging journey is going on its tenth year and I’m always looking to continue my education and keep up with the frequent changes in the blogging community as well as technology. I’ve written a book that I have every intention of revising since taking this course. Guideposts Writing Course is packed with information that you can use whether blogging, writing a book or freelancing articles for publications.
This is an exclusive master class that you can take in roughly two hours if you start it and go through the modules non-stop. You can take the course at your own pace and start and stop as needed. I couldn’t complete the course in one sitting due to my hectic lifestyle and then mother nature had her own plans. I am in North Carolina and was hit with two back to back hurricanes. Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael. I had some flash flooding and temporary loss of power and internet with Hurricane Florence.
Hurricane Michael was mild, and we got lots of rain with some power and internet outages throughout our area. This made it impossible for me to get any online work that I needed to complete. I fell behind on so many projects that required me to have online access. I was so appreciative that you can pick up exactly where you left off. One evening I was in the middle of taking a quiz and my internet went out. Once it came back on I was able to continue taking the quiz like there was no disruption.
Before I figured out that you can pick up exactly where you left off, I thought I was going to have to start the quiz all over again. Getting started was easy! Once you purchase the course, just create a log-in and password so you can access your student dashboard and get started. There is a downloadable workbook for you to use as you go through the chapters. There are twelve chapters total that are accompanied with a video and quiz to see what you’ve learned. You need a 65% or better to pass the quiz.
I’m proud to say that I’ve been getting 80% and better on every quiz. Well, I had one that I got a 75% on but, I blame that on the fact that I missed an important piece of information while being a mom! Lol! I failed to pause the video while my son “needed†to speak to me and show me something at that very moment. Don’t be like Jen… Pause the video and go back and replay anything you may have missed! I just kept going and I should’ve went back to see what I missed. Ugh!
The workbook is great to follow along with the videos and take notes in. There are also tips and highlighted information that will help you with the quiz portion of the course. You’ll learn “How To Tell A Great Story†starting with the basics of “What is a Story?†and you’ll move into “Where to Startâ€, Finding Conflict in Your Storyâ€, “Characterization†and so many other great topics. I liked learning about the Narrator, moving your story along with scenes and keeping your reader engaged.
Course Features: 12 video modules (captions available) to guide you in your writing journey, digital workbook with a summary of main points from each module, full lifetime access to the course and its materials, quiz for each module to test your knowledge, certificate of completion when you finish the course, instructions on how to submit your story to a publisher for publication, compatible in all web browsers and you get a 30 day money back guarantee!
This course takes you from start to finish with how to tell a great story and one important thing to remember that is stated in the course is the be relatable. You want your readers to be able to relate to what you’re saying. You want them to have an emotional connection and see themselves or someone they know in your words. This is coming from the Editors of Guideposts sharing their expertise of what they do on a regular basis. They are great instructors with years of knowledge under their belt.
I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to enhance their writing and storytelling skills. Thank you to Guideposts for the opportunity to review this course and making it affordable and user friendly.
