Review: The Hip Hop Dance Experience

The Hip Hop Dance Experience video game has been the highlight of the recent parties I’ve hosted in my home and when I’m not being the “hostess with the mostess”… I find myself battling my teenagers to let them know Mama’s still got it! Now, the teenagers always fall out laughing at me because they say I may “feel” as though I’m doing the dance moves choreographed for the game but, I’m really not! They’re entitled to their own opinions but, they can’t tell me anything! I guess it’s all in my head that I’m dancing perfectly. Ha! My youngest even gets in on the action because he will not be left out, thoroughly enjoys hip hop and can dance his little tush off! There are forty hit “hip hop” tracks to enjoy. The Hip Hop Dance Experience is rated Teen and we play it on our XBOX 360 Kinect.

The Hip Hop Dance Experience is a two player game that you can play in four different game modes. You can battle each other or play together against the system. You have forty awesome tracks to choose from and six different venues to dance in. The game modes are Dance Party, Dance Battle, Dance Marathon and Power Skooling. Once you’re ready to dance you just mirror the moves you see the dancer that’s opposite of you by following their performance. Your challenge is to mirror the dancers movement facing you on screen as closely as possible, and on beat! You’ll see dance cards appear next to each dancer prompting the next dance move. You all get counted down to the next dance and this also helps with being able to memorize the routine. You will get feedback letting you know your progress or if you’re missing it all together. The star meter measures how well you dance and fills up as you successfully perform. The points you accumulate is based on how well you perform the dances. You can even see which dances you performed well vs. the ones you need to work on.

There is a song for everyone that include current hip hop songs and others that date back to the 80’s and 90’s! The game is voice enabled allowing you to use the Kinect microphone to select particular songs by saying “select” and the song title. You are also able to use the Kinect sensor to navigate through The Hip Hop Dance Experience video game menus without using a controller. You can pause the game by simply stepping out of the designated play area and other players can join anytime by entering the play space and raising their hand above their head. The graphics are sharp giving you every detail of a dancers outfit from head to toe. If you love hip hop and dancing this is the game for you!

Review: Just Dance Disney Party

Just Dance Disney Party is the perfect playtime activity for me and mini me (my four year old son) during the day. We were ecstatic to have the opportunity to review Just Dance Disney Party. I personally loved the Disney favorites selection of songs to choose from and dance to like The Little Mermaid – Under The Sea, The Muppet Show – The Muppet Show Theme, and Lilo Stitch – Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride just to name a few. There are also some great song selections from the hottest Disney channel shows. You have the option to play with 1-4 players in party shuffle mode allowing you to continuously dance to your favorite songs non-stop by just pushing a single button or you can make your own Disney Party playlists with up to ten songs each. This game is rated E for everyone and is great for ALL ages. This is great for me because mini me is the youngest of four children and his siblings are all teenagers. This doubles as a great family activity for all of us when it’s not mommy and me activity time with mini me.

Just Dance Disney Party gives you twenty five new choreographed dances to go along with the awesome song selection. Some of our favorite Disney characters are featured in the game along with realistic visual effects and backgrounds inspired by the Disney tv shows and movies. My son really enjoyed the Disney characters making an appearance. You are scored by your ability to follow the choreography as closely as possible and gain stars for a high score. We played Just Dance Disney on our XBOX 360 Kinect and it allows special features like being able to dance without limits as the Kinect sensor tracks your movements without controllers. There are also great parental control options allowing you to select all your children’s favorite songs for lots of dancing and there are also lyrics on the screen helping the kids to learn the songs and sing along as they dance. This can also be a great party activity.

Review: Marvel Avengers Battle For Earth

My family definitely LOVES the Marvel brand especially mini me (my four year old son)! When we had the opportunity to review Marvel: Avengers Battle for Earth, I couldn’t resist! We played Marvel: Avengers Battle for Earth on our XBOX 360 Kinect. The game is action packed and easy to navigate through. You have the option of using the Kinect sensor or controller to select menu options, game modes, and choose characters. There are twenty iconic character to choose from that include the Avengers as well as our favorite super heroes and villains. One of the BEST features is that you use motion to fight by moving your body to trigger your character to attack your opponent. You have the option of playing online and offline in campaign mode, co-op, tournament, challenge and more. Marvel: Avengers Battle for Earth can accommodate 1-4 players.

My favorite part of playing is choosing the battle location, they have an option to battle in Manhattan and there’s nothing like a super hero fight in time square in between Iron Man and the Hulk. Another great feature in addition to using motion to fight is that the game is voice enabled allowing you to speak commands. My four year old loves the characters on Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth, calling each and every one by name. We play in battle mode against each other and sometimes mini me plays in solo mode against the game system. It’s a very active game, you get a mini workout following the moves the computer prompts you to do along with putting your own personal spin during battle. The graphics are amazing; you’ll see exactly what I mean as soon as you start the game. The introduction is like a movie trailer teaser that leaves you wanting more.

This is a great game to play with family or a group of friends. It’s rated T for teen however, mini me is a Marvel junkie. He gets it honestly! I am already planning a 5th birthday party for mini me this coming January and this will be a great activity for his birthday party guests and it fits perfectly with our Avengers Birthday Party theme. I’d like Assassin’s Creed 3 is because it’s a fun way to connect with my teenage son and my husband. Our entire family loves to game and different games bring us together and connect us in different ways. Being the mom of two boys and two girl’s with ages ranging from teenagers to a preschooler, we play a variety video games frequently as a family activity to cheer each other on when competing or trying to beat a game. Depending on certain game ratings we’ll play together and ones for mature audiences we’ll play separately from my little one. My husband and teenage son have played Assassins Creed 1 and 2 and can’t wait to play three. I personally like the bonding that comes along with playing video games, the discussion about what’s going on and the objective of the game. I think my son and hubby feel a sense accomplishment as we play games, giving me play by play, “teaching” me the ropes and if I’m successful, they’ve done their job and for a moment I feel like one of the “guys”! It’s our moment!

To give you some background Assassin’s Creed 3 (via the Assassin’s Creed 3 website) it takes you back to the Revolutionary war, and not necessarily the way we’ve read about it in our history text books. The American colonies, It’s a time of civic unrest and political upheaval in the Americas. Assassin is a Native American that’s fighting to protect his land and his people. Assassin’s Creed 3 has evolved since the first one allowing you to eliminate your enemies with an array of new weapons including guns, bows, tomahawks, and trusty hidden blades.
