I am totally amazed that the power of the people was able to bring back The Game sitcom after a two year stint. I along with millions of other people were among the fans that complained, signed a petition and voted to get The Game back on television and I have been tuning in weekly since its return on their new network, BET! They had a whopping 7 million viewers on 1.1.11 and they’ve been keeping up with the numbers so far. The power of determined fans along with social media brought this sitcom back. I am blown away by how involved The Game staff is on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, they truly engage with their fans and it’s AWESOME!
This last episode that aired was really exciting for me, because it screamed branding and social media throughout the show. Malik Wright (Hosea Chanchez) got into some trouble with the law and though Tasha isn’t his manager at the moment and has taken Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall) under her wing she was instructing Derwin to stay away from Malik because he needed to preserve his brand. Derwin was a bit conflicted and tried to be there for his friend but, in the midst of everything he received calls from sponsors stating that if he was seen with Malik or went anywhere near him he’d lose their endorsements. I was just wowed!
Malik had to talk to the team owners about how he is going to clear his name and get out of this mess and proceeds to want to tweet to the public that he’s FREE! Meanwhile Melanie Barnett-Davis (Tia Mowry-Hardrict) is at home covered in swag from head to toe that all the sponsors that keep sending Derwin from Ipads, to high end clothing, and sneakers. You name it and it was there! Melanie tried to help Derwin deal with his guilt for not being there for Malik by explaining that he’s worked really hard to build a name for himself and be seen in the public eye as a REAL football player and mentor. She proceeds to go on explain after showing him a sneaker commercial that he stars in that he is his brand and can’t afford to mess it up. That is so true, whether you are representing a company, product or service… YOU are your brand!
If you are NOT familiar with what branding is, it’s the identity of a specific product, service or business! If you legally protect your brand name then you are trade marking! So what are you doing to brand yourself or business? I’ll be sharing what I am doing to brand Jael Custom Designs in a post later on this week.
