Today was Mini Me’s preschool class trip to Ganyard Hill Farm – Durham, NC. The hubby and I had the opportunity to chaperone his preschool class on this field trip. I’d heard so much about Ganyard Hill Farm but, never really had an opportunity to attend until today. This farm was PACKED and full of fun for everyone! There were many other organizations and schools there on field trips and you had regular families making a day of it.
There are play areas for the children, corn maze, hay maze, a barn, animals, pumpkin patch, cotton field and hay rides among other things! With seventeen preschoolers we went on a slide first, a play activity area and then a hay maze. These kids were burning calories running up and down non stop. We stopped for a moment to look at the goats and then went on a hay ride around the farm and that was really fun. After we finished the hay ride it was time to go pumpkin picking.
I learned so much about pumpkins. I honestly thought pumpkin was a vegetable however it’s a fruit. It is a fruit because of the pulp and seeds and it comes from a flower… It is from the gourd family. However it is still considered a vegetable by most and usually can be found in the vegetable produce section in grocery stores. Take a look at a few pictures from our trip and if you’re local, head on over to Ganyard Hill Farm and check them out.
I added myself to the photo using photoshop, I was actually taking the picture! Ha!
Stay tuned for a follow up post on what we do with our pumpkins! We each got to pick a pumpkin. I see some jack-o-lanterns and roasted pumpkin seeds in our future.
