Brian Dawson spoke with ChristieOhh to give her the scoop on the “Swing The Vote” campaign and the importance of knowing your rights as a voter and being registered to vote. Here is what he had to say…
ChristieOhh: You have a huge voter’s registration campaign going on! How important is it to vote this year?
Brian: It’s very important to vote. One of the most important things you need to do in your lifetime. “Swing The Vote!†is the name of my campaign. It’s very big for North Carolina to vote because we will have huge impact on the race this year. North Carolina is a swing state and people need to be encouraged to get out and vote; take advantage of their opportunity to vote. It does make a difference.
ChristieOhh: What are some of the biggest reasons you think people do not get out and vote?
Brian: I don’t think people understand how much their vote counts. I feel most people think that it doesn’t make a difference if their vote doesn’t go in because there are millions of voters. Not true…every vote whether Democratic or Republican matters and if you can vote you should vote.
ChristieOhh: What are you looking to contribute?
Brian: I’m just looking to get people excited about voting! The urban community love to do things big. So I’m looking to put on a big fashionable, classy and fun event. We will have a great time and make people stand up and vote. We will have information on where you can vote, how you can check to see if you are eligible to vote and if not how you can become eligible, we don’t want anyone to be left out if they can vote. Remember how 4 years ago P. Diddy had the huge voter’s campaign; that’s what we are going for with “Swing The Voteâ€.
ChristieOhh: Do you feel like progress is being made in our communities?
Brian: Of course, I believe we are more aware of what’s going on in politics but to think that Mitt Romney could take the vote in my state in scary. And we need to support the parties that support us the most.
ChristieOhh: How can we support?
Brian: Sending people online to Brian Dawson Presents to download voter’s registration forms and information is the best way to support. You must be registered 24 days before voting. We will have available a Q&A sections on the site because people may not know where they can vote, they may need information if they have felonies, and even to find out if their voting cards are valid. We want people to be able to obtain the information they need to vote. I’m trying to use my pedestal for serious causes and other things outside of promoting parties and events.
ChristieOhh: Outside of this much need event and your radio show; what else would you like to do?
Brian: I think I really want to get more into the concert and touring side of the business. I would like to get involved with the personality side and DJing side outside of North Carolina. I definitely would like to do events oversees soon.
