I’ll never forget the morning I woke up and couldn’t move from the neck down. When I tried it was so painful, I had to call my brother in law to come to my home and help me get the kids off to school and go to the ER. I had been stressing out quite a bit and I was having muscle spasms that I just shrugged off instead of stopping to exhale, exploring what it could be and trying to eliminate it. When I got to the ER they did a few [Read more…]
Relax, Relate, Release!!!
Today I am trying to distress and recuperate. Yesterday was definitely not a good day; I was not feeling well and very irritable. You do realize that it’s times like these that you’re tested. From the moment I got to work I knew it was going to be one of those days. I went into my boss as soon as I got in and asked to leave once my work for the day was done and she agreed. My first test of the day was a phone call I received which on any other day would be fine because I do have a great deal of patience and can tolerate quite a bit, but not so much when I feel crappy. I answered the phone quite professionally and asked to whom I may direct your call, and the caller answered; “Ummm I don’t know, I’m returning a call from this number.†Okay, at this moment I get really pissed because we are a business staffed with a few employees and I don’t have ESP. What made it worse was they got a voicemail but, decided not to listen to it and just return the call. Well, maybe if you listened to your voicemail prior to returning the call you’d know who was trying to reach you and why.
Second test of the day, I get a call from another woman that is also returning a call. Okay, whom would you like to speak with? Ummm, I don’t know, I’m placing an ad in the paper. Okay, is it a classified ad or a display ad? I don’t know. So, at this point I’m not going to tell you what went through my mind because it wasn’t nice. Have you placed an ad with us before, I asked. Yes, I have she answered. Okay, so do you know your Advertising Reps name? Uh, I think Theresa. Mam, we don’t have a Theresa that works here. What are you advertising for, I asked? I’d like to place a Help Wanted Ad. Okay, so that’s a Classified Ad. One moment please, and I transfer her to the appropriate party. At this point I had to vent to a co worker or I would have exploded. I even tweeted about it. That is definitely a pet peeve of mine. Okay, I am almost finished with my work and out the door and I get something put on my desk in the to-do bin. Ugh! I jump right on that and finish within fifteen minutes, send out a email to all employees that I am leaving the building and will finish where I left off tomorrow.
So, moving on… I’ve been having chronic muscle spasms for the last two weeks but, was dealing with it because I figured they would eventually go away. I’ve been trying to keep my stress level down but I guess that my methods aren’t working. I’m very emotional and vocal so I get stressed out when I don’t express myself. Here’s to me not keeping anything bottled up in 2010! Well. I called my Chiropractor and told him I need to get an appointment immediately. He scheduled me in and when I got there he did a few X Rays, some adjusting, heat therapy, ultrasound therapy, and acupuncture. After all of that I was relieved just a little bit. However, I’ve been like this going on two weeks I guess I need to give it some time to work and for my muscles to start relaxing. So, I have another appointment tomorrow. I’m looking for any natural types of de tress exercises and natural muscle relaxing remedies. I do have prescribed pain medication and muscle relaxers but, I don’t want to take them because, I get really loopy and fatigued.
This is not the first time I’ve been here. In 2007 I woke up one morning and couldn’t move at all. It scared me so bad. I was able to talk and that was it. My neck muscles had tightened and my head was tilted to one side and I couldn’t move. My muscles were pretty much locked into place causing me to be restricted. I called my brother in law because hubby had left for work already and the kids weren’t even up yet for school. I couldn’t help them if I couldn’t help myself! I started to scream for my oldest daughter who was ten at the time so she could open the door for her uncle and I could let her know what was going on without her getting scared. Verdict was I was diagnosed with toticollis. A stiff neck that tilts the head to one side, “torticollis,” may indicate that one or more of the vertebrae in the neck has become “fixed,” again irritating the nerves and sometimes resulting in muscle spasms. Treatment may involve chiropractic manipulation, Physical therapies, and exercise.
Verdict: I need to shake it off, and not let anything get to me. It’s all about no stress and releasing all of the negative energy that I may retain. I’m going to start my yoga sessions again and try meditation to clear my mind. I welcome all advice you may have to offer.
