I had the opportunity to read How To Move From Blogger To WordPress by Sharon Hujik. This book, is a “Do It Yourself†comprehensive guide to moving your blog from the blogger platform to self hosting your own blog on WordPress. How to Move From Blogger to WordPress is a very user friendly book for anyone from a blogger to designer to use. The book is broken down in five parts and then a conclusion giving you step by step instructions on how to successfully move your blog from blogger to a self hosted domain on WordPress.
The first part of the book welcomes you, gives you a little peek at who Sharon is what to expect and goes over all the legal mumbo jumbo before you get into the technical side of things.
Part 2 goes over the time and commitment that is required to get this task accomplished, choosing a hosting company, creating a hosting account, Installing WordPress, Setting up a test blog and configuring your WordPress account.
Part 3 is an orientation about WordPress, giving you the differences between blogger and WordPress, WordPress Customization, themes, widgets, plug-ins and much more.
Part 4 gives you the entire transfer process when moving your content over from blogger to WordPress and some troubleshooting tips for lost content or comments and how to maintain permalinks.
Part 5 gets you ready to launch your new beautiful WordPress site to the world! This section goes over updating your domain name servers (DNS), email, search engine settings, updating FeedBurner and installing tracking scripts.
The conclusion is a HUGE congratulation for moving from blogger to WordPress followed by affiliate information, resources that Sharon was so GREAT to share and the appendix.
I read this book from cover to cover and learned how to do things differently, there is always more than one way to achieve the same end result. I also got a refresher course on FTP. As a graphic & web designer I would definitely recommend this book to anyone taking the “do it yourself†approach. All in all this is a great book that you can use now and in the future as a referencing tool. Sharon blogs over at Good True and Beautiful and is always sharing WordPress Tips. You can also follow her tweets @SharonHujik and If you’d like a copy of this book you can visit How to Move from Blogger to WordPress and get your copy.
