I am definitely dealing with lots of transition in my life and it’s a process. Sometimes in life we get so comfortable with the way things are that when change occurs we don’t know how to handle it. I can speak about this first hand because I’m dealing with this right now. I felt a little dip in my spirit and thought to myself that depression was trying to set in and get the best of me.
I had to look up signs of depression to see if I was experiencing any of these symptoms like a depressed mood, loss of interest or in activities I used to enjoy, having feelings of guilt, hopelessness or worthlessness. Having sleep disturbance, difficulty concentrating, lack of energy and fatigue, appetite and weight changes or thoughts of death or suicide. After looking at the most common symptoms I came to the conclusion that I may have a few of those symptoms, and they are trying to get in the way of me moving forward. So I set out to find ways to counteract the way I am feeling and keep me motivated so that I don’t get taken off track and become stagnant or abandon my journey! Disclosure: I am NOT having thoughts of death or suicide. Just wanted to throw that out there!
Here are some things that I have done in the past and new tips I looked up to work on self motivation. First and foremost pray or meditate. Meditation is a learned art that I am still trying to master. My mind is always on the go and to slow it down and train it to stop thinking and have a clear mind is HARD work. I also love reading the bible, the entire book of Psalms immediately gets my spirit where it’s supposed to be. When I’m down I just open the bible and pick any scripture in psalms. It usually does the trick! Go after your dreams! I am doing this right now too. If you don’t dream big and try to achieve them you’ll grow to regret it. It’s better to say you tried than not to try at all. Don’t quit! Lot’s of times we want to give up and success can be right around the corner. Just Keep swimming! Just Keep swimming… For some reason I thought of Dory from Finding Nemo! *That’s your theme music*
Commit to being happy, it’s definitely a state of mind! Don’t live in the past. There’s a quote: Don’t let the past steal your present! ~Terri Guillemets This next one is hard to wrap my brain around… Complete tasks that you start AND finish one task before you begin another one! I am the mom of four and always have multiple things going on at once. This one will definitely be a work in progress for me. However I feel if I do focus on one task at a time I do have a better chance of completing it and moving to the next instead of jumping around until they all happen to get complete.
At the Blogalicious Conference last month Mario Armstrong said “Get comfortable being uncomfortable” that’s where all the good stuff awaits us! We also shouldn’t limit ourselves, let’s think outside the box! That’s one of my favorite quotes. My tagline is “Thinking outside the box” and I stay true to it. I don’t want to blend in, I make it a priority to stand out. We also can’t be afraid to make mistakes, we’ll learn from them, move on and know better NOT to make the same mistake twice! Everything is a learning experience. So while things may try to get in our way, deter us and try to get the best of our emotions… Let’s try to stay positive and motivated! What are some tips you can share to stop depression from trying to set in and stay motivated?
