Day 3: 21 days To A Better Business Blog – Rethinking the Name of Your Blog
Assignment: You have a few options to choose from when naming your blog, some examples are below and you can also use an acronym when creating blog titles as well. I use “Jael Custom Designs” however I also use “JCD” when I can’t fit my whole blog name in a given area, my blog button says “JCD” because it’s 125 x 125 pixels and I didn’t want it to look too small and bunched up if I tried to put my entire name in my button.
Example 1: Name + Tagline Example 2: Memorable Name + Logo Related to Your Niche AND Example #3: A Combination of Your Image + Business Name
Answer: My blog name fits with example 2. Even though it represents my initials, I came up with the name and designed my logo to fit. My Name is Jen Lawrence and I didn’t want to use the letters J.L. so I used Jael instead. It’s an existing biblical name meaning “wild she goat” but, I liked it better than my two initials and I didn’t want to use my full name. I also have a second domain that points to the same website: Jael’s Social Media Life. I started to blog more about branding and social media than I was designing so I decided to use it. I really never write about designing I just preview designs from time to time and I have a portfolio linked on my blog.
My banner is a rotating banner to reflect both url’s so there’s no confusion. It’s like my Jael Custom Designs banner is my personal advertisement letting everyone know that I offer graphic and web design services. My Tag line for Jael Custom Designs is “Redefining the Box†and my Tag Line for Jael’s Social Media Life is “An Infusion of ideas, reviews, networking and topics†I may change the way it is and separate the two in the near future. However, I’m quite content with the name of my blog. I’ve also been entertaining the though of redesigning my logo for Jael Custom Designs. We’ll see where this challenge takes me! I’m very indecisive! Can you tell?
