In today’s society we are so technology driven that communication is now mostly email, instant messaging, texting , Facebook chat, tweeting, video chat, and BBM (BlackBerry Messenger). It is said via match.com that one in five relationships start online. Online dating coupled with modern communication seems to be the in thing. I wonder if it’s a trend or will we continue on this path? I caught Episode 2 of Tough Love Miami on VH1 and I really enjoyed it. The episode was about “Dating in the Digital Age†So here is some back ground in case you’ve never seen Tough Love, this is actually season 3. There are eight attractive women that are attending Steve Ward’s bootcamp because they can’t seem to keep a man and have no clue as to why. For ten weeks they’ll reside under one roof in an effort to change their dating habits. Steve has guaranteed if they follow his advice throughout bootcamp they’ll be ready for love. They all seem to genuinely want to be in relationships and are at a point in their life where they’d like to settle down but each cast member has their own set of issues.
In relationships we tend to Facebook, text and tweet! If you don’t handle any of these social networking forms of communication with care you can really ruin your relationship during the courting phase and even after. How many of you have ever Googled yourself just to see what came up? Better yet, how many of you have ever Googled a potential boyfriend to see what came up? When posting to Facebook or Twitter, do you watch what you say? When uploading pictures to Facebook, do you have your albums set to friends only or can everyone view them? These are questions that you should ask yourself and review the answers, especially if you have skeletons you don’t want flying out of your closet! I use my Facebook and Twitter accounts personally and professionally. I always watch what I tweet and upload to Facebook. I definitely engage and carry conversations on these platforms but, it’s nothing that I’m ashamed of and wouldn’t be embarrassed if any of my social networking pages happen to be the subject of attention in the public eye. I often tweet out pictures from events that I host or attend and they are uploaded to Facebook a little while after. Take a look at this clip below from Tough Love Miami and give me your thoughts… Steve Ward is really teaching them a lesson this episode!
