Clinton Kelly came to Macy’s – Streets at South Point Mall in Durham, NC to help us with our fashion woes and share some style secrets. The Makeover Master from What NOT to Wear and The Chew didn’t waste any time jumping right into the discussion and fashion show so that we could talk about the dos and don’ts in fashion as well as summer trends. Now the first initial thing that Clinton shared with us is that people always get fashion and style confused, so he broke it down for us stating that style is different from fashion. Fashion is what’s trending in stores (clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup etc.) and style is what we choose to do with it. Clinton also dropped a gem stating that “Style can get you WHATEVER you want out of life. Your style is you communicating what you want out of life without opening your mouth.†I can totally understand that, it makes me want to revise some of my style habits immediately. Another thing that Clinton mentioned is that he doesn’t critique anyone unless they ask, but did say that a lot may be going through his head at that particular moment. Lol! Clinton Kelly is hysterical! He also said… Wear something cute, and don’t take any crap!
The Macy’s Fashion Show featured three types of women… The Millennial, Curvy & Mature! First up was American Icons and the pieces were just right for the summer. There were several models that rocked the runway in their attire and Clinton would tell us what she was wearing, how it all paired well together and who the designers were. Clinton Kelly alerted us to pay attention to trends. When choosing clothing to wear you must look at the color, cut, texture and style to make sure that it is just right for you. Cut is always more important than color. You definitely want your clothes to fit you correctly. We talked about pattern mixing, and Clinton said that is was okay to mix patterns as long as they share the same color palette, giving you a bold look. Clinton also shared that any other print will go with a black and white print. We also had the “Denim†Talk! If you like wearing distressed jeans, pay attention to wear they are distressed especially if you are self conscious about certain parts of your body because that’s where people’s eyes are going to gravitate towards. We had a talk about tights and choosing the right one for you. Clinton said that opaque or pattern tights are always a win! Oh, and ladies Clinton Kelly also said… Don’t wear leggings as pants!
In closing we were able to have a question and answer session with Clinton Kelly and he couldn’t leave without giving us a piece of his mind! First and foremost, dress yourself to make you happy! Don’t listen to HATERS! They really hate themselves! Surround yourself with clothes and food that make you happy, that give you energy to pursue your dreams. We as women tend to be really mean and brutal when it comes to ourselves, Clinton urges us to stop using the â€H†(Hate) word AND… Stop comparing ourselves to other women! Stop ruining your own day. If you are harboring ill feeling towards certain people because of something they said or did to you, FORGIVE them and move on! It will be a much healthier situation for you to be in. Clinton also told us to be very careful when it comes to advertising, all the images that we see aren’t always REAL in its raw state. There is no need to compare yourself to a model that spent a few hours in hair and make-up to do a photo shoot for a particular brand. The photo/video will be edited before it’s published. When we happen to see the ad immediately, we compare our self to her. That’s a NO NO! The model probably left the scene of the photo shoot looking completely different. We are all uniquely beautiful and as long as you know that, that’s all that matters.
I had an amazing time at the Macy’s Clinton Kelly Fashion Event and was even able to meet up with some of my local Fashion, lifestyle & beauty blogger buddies and catch up for a moment. We were able to take a “selfie†and post it to Instagram and also a cute group photo just to document our good times. It was great and I can’t wait to do it again. I learned so much! Oh… I almost left one thing out. Clinton also said that we shouldn’t wear t-shirts. We need to kick tees to the curb and wear blouses. A t-shirt hides our curves and doesn’t truly fit us. I’m the queen of wearing tees! This is going to be a tough transition. What fashion or style tips can you add to this list? What is your favorite summer trend?
