I recently had to head to Orlando, FL on business and took the opportunity to celebrate my sons tenth Birthday while we were traveling. It’s no secret that if I’m headed somewhere on business and it’s a family friendly destination, my kids tag along and I make it a business/family fun trip. Once I attended my scheduled meetings and business was out of the way it was family fun time! My son LOVES Legos and I planned to visit Legoland Florida Resort. It just happened to be during the NINJAGO Days event.
NINJAGO Days happened January 20-21, 27-28 (when we were there) and scheduled for February 3-4. We also decided to spend the night at the Legoland Beach Retreat. Events were scheduled throughout the entire park and opportunities to meet the characters like Master Wu, Kai and Nya. There were martial arts demonstrations, Ninjoga (ninja-themed yoga) and a Where’s Wu scavenger hunt throughout the park until close. Scavenger hunts were also taking place at the Legoland hotel & beach retreat.
The first thing we did once we entered the park was grab some food and I was also working so, I set up my mobile office in the Market Restaurant. We enjoyed pizza, candy sushi and ninja trail mix. I enjoyed the convenience of WIFI throughout the park and had my hot spot in tow just in case. It was great seeing all the Lego Figures throughout the park and enjoyed Lego Miniland. Las Vegas and New York City were probably my favorite builds to look at. The Statue of Liberty was very cool to look at as well.
My son enjoyed riding the roller coasters and LEGO Ninjago World. We experienced LEGO Ninjago The Ride and had a great time. You blast fireballs and lightening at villains while you’re on the ride. It’s a 3D experience and your vehicle is keeping score. I ended with 91,400 and was ready to jump back on again to get a higher score. It’s a fun ride! They also got on Mia’s Riding Adventure and had a great time. One thing we can’t wait to experience is the waterpark once it opens for the Spring/Summer season.
Once we’d covered the entire park a couple of times we decided to leave and head over to the Legoland Beach Retreat. It’s literally across the street from the theme park and the Legoland Hotel is right next to the park on the same property. I loved the convenience of drive-up check in and check out. I didn’t have to leave the car until we got to our bungalow. Checking in was a quick and seamless process. We got our bungalow key(s), folder with all the on-location activities along with a menu and map of the area.
The property is beautiful. You are right on Lake Dexter so you get a cool breeze and great view of the water. All the bungalows are grouped into 13 themed coves. We were in Surfer’s Cove. There are play areas right outside your front door. The pool area, lighthouse, Bricks Beach Bar and Sandy’s Castle Restaurant are within walking distance from your bungalow. I enjoyed a Pina Colada and Jamaican Jerk Wings at the bar to wind down after our theme park adventure. My son got a FREE meal because I purchased an adult meal.
The pool area is equipped with a play area for the kids, colorful lounge chairs in the sand and countless LEGOS in the pool. The pool is HEATED guys! I love heated pools! The restaurant is open until 9pm and then you can order take-out up until 10pm. Let’s talk about these beach-themed LEGO bungalows! I walked into the room and thought it wouldn’t work because the second sleeping area is hidden behind a curtain. Lol! The bungalows are LEGO décor inside and outside. It’s so bright & colorful. I love it!
The second sleeping area can accommodate up to three people. One of the cutest things I had to document was the built in potty seat on the toilet. You don’t have to tote your own potty around. That was cool! We’re past this stage but, I was tickled and thought I would pass it on to potty training parents. The entertainment system was great, we watched the Disney Channel and SyFy the entire time. It also gives you the weather, park news and information about the property. You control your own thermostat and I kept it comfortable.
I truly enjoyed the shaded patio area and being able to hang out there and work as my son played outside. We also got the Legoland Times in the morning which was super cute and I enjoyed reading it on the patio. You receive a complimentary breakfast in the morning and there are so many food choices. I enjoyed scrambled eggs, bacon, French toast sticks and Orange Juice. It’s a self-serve buffet style set up. I couldn’t get enough of the pool area and kept gravitating back there.
Overall, we had a great time at Legoland Resort and Beach Retreat. My son can’t stop talking about it. I’m glad he enjoyed his Birthday Surprise! It’s a great family travel destination and we can’t wait to visit again. Bonuses: Complimentary shuttle service to the theme park, Free WIFI in the bungalows, Free parking on the premises and early admission to the theme park.
