Drinking water is very important to my family. We are all very active individuals and drinking water to keep us hydrated is definitely on top of our priority list. The summer has flown by and there were some really HOT days that required frequent water consumption. Whether we enjoyed some sunshine at the pool, walked around the neighborhood or spent the day at the theme park we had water in tow this summer.
I head over to my neighborhood Walmart and buy Nestlé® Pure Life® Water for my family. I try to always keep it stocked up in our pantry, making sure there are several bottles refrigerated and ready for us to drink. My children take bottled water with them to school and to the fitness center when they workout. I have four children ages 19, 17, 15 & 7. My oldest son and youngest daughter are both a part of the JROTC program at their High School. They get up really early in the morning to go to physical training and sometimes stay after school for color guard, air rifle team and armed drill team. It’s very important for them to eat a well balanced meal in addition to being hydrated when they are practicing.
My oldest daughter is attending her first year of college and we made sure we stocked her up with Nestlé® Pure Life® Water. She is involved in a few different clubs and activities that require a lot of time after she has completed her classes each day. It’s important for her to maintain healthy eating regularly, as well as drinking water in between activities. I know she is preparing for her school’s homecoming this month and will be involved in activities around the clock during that week. I’m just a little concerned that she might become overwhelmed and forget to eat and drink water to keep her energy up. I know college life can be hectic with classes, exams and extracurricular activities, but eating and drinking water regularly is a must.
I personally drink water daily. Sometimes I drink it in pure form and other times I may add a flavor like “Sweet Tea” and drink it. I also like to drink cold water vs. room temperature. It just tastes better to me and is my personal choice. I’m glad that my family doesn’t drink a lot of carbonated beverages, we drink a lot of Nestlé® Pure Life® Water, Juice & Milk. Drinking water has definitely turned into a healthy habit for us, even down to my seven year old. It wasn’t always like this for us, however, and it looks like we’re not the only family who had to make it regular part of our lives.
Robin Plotkin shares tips to help you talk as a family about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. She says in addition to eating a well balanced diet and getting regular exercise, discuss drinking water and getting enough sleep as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. She suggests that you prep ahead a week’s worth of bottled water, like Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water, for lunches or on-the-go-events at one time. Store in the freezer and remove when needed to stock lunches, backpacks or gym bags. The water will be ready to drink when your child is ready.
A recent survey* from Nestlé® Pure Life® found that kids who drink 4+ glasses of water per day are more likely to exhibit healthy habits, such as getting their own water when they are thirsty or eating their fruit and vegetables at meal times without reminders. They also found that a majority of kids say they prefer a homemade lunch (57%) over a school bought lunch. This preference for packed lunches offers a key hydration opportunity for moms – packing a bottle of water can help increase a child’s water intake for the day and water reminders are necessary to build healthy hydration habits but only half of moms (52%) we surveyed* said they regularly remind their child to drink water.
To ignite The Ripple Effect movement and encourage kids to get the water they need throughout their day, Nestlé® Pure Life® has committed to provide nearly one million 8 ounce servings of water to kids this school year at over 20 participating schools in select markets across the country through After-School All-Stars, an organization that strives to keep children safe and healthy through after school programming.
