I can’t seem to get enough of The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar, it seems like I was just there the other day. That’s because I had dinner at the North Hills Raleigh location with friends last month. It was a very intimate event that I truly enjoyed. Thanks Kate & Andrea! This month Kate from Life of a Ginger and Andrea from Good Girl Gone Redneck coordinated a meet up with local (NC Social) North Carolina Bloggers. I really appreciate in-person meetups where you can catch up with friends and meet new people.
We started out with some tasty appetizers. The Crab Rangoon Dip is my absolute favorite starter! I had to pace myself so that I’d be able to eat my entrée when it came. It’s creamy crab Rangoon with parmesan panko crust, wonton crisps, Thai sweet chili sauce and chives. We also had Edamame: Soy Beans in pod served with a choice of sea salt, alderwood smoked salt or siracha salt and Blackened Tuna Nachos: 5 wonton chips with crab Rangoon dip, avocado salsa, tomatoes, seared rare blackened yellowfin tuna and microgreens.
I’m usually a creature of habit because I like to play it safe when I find a dish that I absolutely love. I have some dietary issues and food sensitivities, so I’m always making sure I can tolerate what I’m eating and won’t have any adverse reactions. My staple at The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar has been the Vindaloo Lamb Burger. I get it EVERY single time I’m there! Last month I took baby steps towards trying sushi because I was concerned about eating uncooked sushi and had never really tried it.
Kate & Andrea told me to try the Veggie Roll and I also tried The Roll That Love Built. The Love Roll is available through March 31st and $2.00 from each roll will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Durham & Wake to help with #KeepingFamiliesClose while their children are enduring medical treatments and extended hospital stays. The Roll has shrimp tempura and kani on the inside with tuna, hamachi, sweet eel sauce, Japanese mayo & tabiko on the outside. It was YUMMY!
I was determined to try a different entrée this visit and after my sushi introduction, why not look for a roll that can satisfy my palate with all the ingredients I CAN have. I settled on “The Prime Time†Filet & Lobster Roll. It has Lobster and cucumbers inside, topped with seared rare seasoned filet mignon, pan-fried portobella mushroom slices tossed in truffle oil, green onions and spicy mayo, served with a side of pounded ginger sauce. It had the BEST kick and I finished the ENTIRE Roll! *pats myself on the back*
I did ask them to cook my seared filet mignon to about medium and they were concerned about my allergies, so they withheld the Ginger Sauce because of gluten but, I don’t have a gluten allergy, so I was able to enjoy it. I loved that they went over my entrée before brining it to me and even flagged it for allergy. Every restaurant doesn’t have the same type of concern for patrons that have food sensitivities. That really stood out to me and I truly appreciate it.
My cocktail of choice was the Moscow Muleshine and it’s so tasty! It’s Poteen Moonshine, ginger beer, freshly squeezed lime and shiso garnished with a lime. It paired very well with my appetizer and entrée. The desserts are AMAZING! My favorite is the Moose is Loose: assorted layers of classic fudge brownie, chocolate mousse and vanilla mousse. I’m a chocoholic! We also had Fresh Berry Tall Cake: Moist Lemon Pound Cake, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream & Raspberry Sauce. Topped with fresh strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.
There was also Chef Dave’s Not Factory Made Cheesecake, I couldn’t indulge in this because of the almonds. It looked great though… It’s Creamy coconut almond cheesecake atop a golden fortune cookie crust. Finished with almond coconut and raspberry sauce. I can’t believe I had a bite of the Moose is Loose and Fresh Berry Tall Cake after all the crab Rangoon dip I ate and finishing The Prime Time Filet & Lobster Roll. I was stuffed and loved every sip & bite! Thank you for another amazing evening The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar. #hosted
