I can’t tell you how excited I was to purchase the Lenovo – Star Wars Jedi Challenges Augmented Reality Headset with Lightsaber Controller and Tracking Beacon. When the Disney & Lenovo collaboration was announced I could hardly wait for the release date to arrive. I promise you I was one of the first people at Best Buy to purchase it. It’s also available on the Lenovo website. I’m quite familiar with how Augmented Reality works because I’ve had the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro enabled with Tango to play around with different apps and features.
I’ve always been intrigued with Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Okay, let’s get into Lenovo – Jedi Challenges! What’s in the box: Lightsaber Controller, Lenovo Mirage AR Headset, Tracking Beacon, Phone Tray, (3) USB Cables (2) AA batteries and wall-charger, power cable and quick start guide . The headset is designed ergonomically so you can enjoy being fully engaged in the game. Your Tracking Beacon is ensuring precise tracking of your location so it can transform your space into an AR universe you can truly enjoy.
I opened the box and made sure to plug everything in so we would have fully charged devices. Once everything was charged up I made sure to download the Jedi Challenges App on my Moto Z2 Force Android Smartphone. It’s compatible with Lenovo – Jedi Challenges. It was easy to set up once I installed the app and followed the prompts to get everything synced. The only learning curve I had with set up was setting up the phone correctly in the phone tray within the Lenovo Mirage Headset.
You get three different USB cables so you can connect your smartphone to the headset. It’s available for select iOS and Android smartphones. Check the list to see if you have a compatible phone. They are also actively adding more phones on a regular basis. My son has this thing where he must inspect things and give his commentary before I can get my hands on it and give my personal review. Mini Me went first and had a ball! He loves the battle sequence and fighting style in lightsaber battles.
There are currently three available games you can enjoy on Lenovo – Jedi Challenges. Lightsaber Battles will test your lightsaber skills with some of the worst villains on the dark side like Kylo Ren and Darth Vader. Is the force within you? As you progress through levels it gets more difficult. There are six planets for you to try and strategically defeat using your powers. Holochess will keep your mind sharp as you battle for territory on checkered game tables. It’s all about focus and strategy.
Strategic Combat is about military defense and will test your skills. The mission is to defeat your enemies on the battlefield. You can unlock new units and troops as you advance through the game. The one thing I really like about The Lenovo Mirage AR Headset is that you can still see your surroundings as you play the games. We don’t have to worry about safety and bumping into objects as we move around because we can see what’s in the room along with our Augmented Reality surroundings.
You will need two AA batteries which comes in the box for the Tracking Beacon. The headset and lightsaber have a 5V/1A wall-charger and power cable. You can adjust the headset as needed and it’s comfortable to wear. There is Bluetooth connectivity and it comes is English, German, Japanese, French and Spanish. Overall, we love the Lenovo – Jedi Challenges and can’t wait to check out the future updates. We’re Star Wars Fans! This is a gift you’ll want under the tree this holiday season. It retails for $199.99.
