I’m a 70’s Generation X baby… I didn’t have the many luxuries that kids have today. The first video game console I recall having to memory was Atari 2600. I remember having a speak & spell and if you had the latest speak and spell you were the bomb! My favorite book was Good Night Moon. I would wake up on Saturday morning’s just to see The Smurfs, My Little Pony, The Care Bears and Rainbow Brite. In the evenings I lived for Fraggle Rock and The Muppets. One of my favorite toys was the fisher price record player with microphone. I had Raggedy Ann and Andy and cabbage patch dolls; I went to sleep with my glo-worm and pillow people. I loved playing with my lite brite and used it as a night light. I was totally into the Popples and had the stuffed animals, sleeping bag, and anything else Popple’s themed. I had board games like Operation, Candyland, Shoots & Ladders and loved to play connect four. I would pass time looking through my view master with all the different slides. I don’t recall knowing at an early age what a cell phone was. I didn’t have a TV in my room, no computer at home and tablets didn’t exist.
We now have Generation Z dubbed the “digital generation†and my how times have changed! Today many kids have cell phones, and pass time by downloading apps and playing games or they’re social and are logged into Facebook, Instagram or Twitter sometimes all three at once. They are internet savvy and in this day and age it’s necessary. Technology has made it easy for us to do literally EVERYTHING! We can now download books and movies, order food online and go pick it up, and go shopping online from our mobile devices. Check out this video from Kevin Hart and see if you can relate and tell me how it was growing up in your generation vs. children today! #ihartholidays
