I think Fall is my favorite season as we get ready for the holidays to creep up upon us. I love October for many reasons but, this particular reason is one dear to my heart and that’s recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Many of us have been effected first hand by Breast Cancer whether it’s personally or with someone dear to our hearts. I have friends and family that have had to battle with this disease and I try and support in any way I can by spreading awareness, participating in a race or contributing financially to an organization or foundation that supports Breast Cancer. I have shared some facts below.
Breast Cancer is the second most common newly diagnosed cancer and second leading cause of cancer death among women in the US. This is why it is so important for us to get screened periodically for early detection and more frequently as we get older. We have the option of getting a mammogram, clinical breast examination (CBE) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The American Cancer Society recommends that women receive an annual mammogram beginning at age 40. So please let’s go PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness in October and keep spreading awareness about this disease. Think Pink!
