Ten years ago today I gave birth to an amazing little girl. Her original due date wasn’t until mid January. It was a normal day and I was going to the doctor for my routine OB office visit and the closer I was getting to my due date the more close together my appointments were scheduled. I was going every two weeks at this point. So It was Thursday December 23rd 1999, as scheduled I went to my appointment at 1:00 pm and we listened to her heart beat, measured my abdomen, and it was time for my internal exam to see if I was dilated any. My doctor checked me and I was about 2-3 centimeters dilated and my cervix was thinned out and effaced as he put it. Not even a second later as he was finishing my exam my water broke on the exam table. I looked at him and said, I know that wasn’t supposed to happen! He said no, I think your water may have broken during the exam. He tested my water to see if it was amniotic fluid and it was positive. He said well, looks like we’re having a baby today! I replied Oh boy; I have to make some phone calls.
He called an ambulance to transport me from his office to the hospital. Not even thirty minutes after my water broke the contractions started and they were intense. I got to the hospital by 2:00pm, they admitted me and I guess they thought it was going to take me hours to give birth. I was in stage three labor by the time I got into a birthing suite and no sooner than I got into the bed, I felt her crowning and the doctor couldn’t get to me soon enough. The nurse paged the doctor on call and she ran in and had the audacity to tell me to wait until she scrubs in and puts her gloves on. I looked at her with a really blank facial expression, and said I’m not even pushing. You better hurry up she’s coming, and I don’t think she’s going to wait for you! Not even a minute later J Rocafella was born at 4:06pm. She’s been a bundle of joy ever since. We stayed in the hospital for two days and were released on Saturday December 25th Christmas afternoon. What a Christmas that was in 99’ and the best Christmas blessing ever!
I made a vow to never combine Christmas and her Birthday together. She always gets separate gifts for each occasion and we celebrate it separately as well. We really don’t do Birthday Parties with friends because it’s so close to the holidays and everyone travels and is hardly ever available to attend. So it’s usually always a family affair. If I can sneak a school party in before Holiday break I will, but it doesn’t work out the same from year to year. I still can’t believe my 2nd to last child is ten. She was the baby for eight years before my Pooh Bear came along. He’s 23 mos. and will be two in January. I have four fabulous children and they are 13, 12, 10, and 23 mos. I am amazed constantly as I watch them grow up. Happy 10th Birthday J Rocafella, Mommy & the Gang Love you so much!
