Maybe I’ve been living in isolation for too long because I honestly hadn’t heard the term “Galentine’s†until this February. Suddenly out of the blue I kept seeing Galentine’s Day events surface and stores using the term to market certain products to women from their girlfriends. I was invited to my first Galentine’s Day Pajama Jam Brunch and was excited. These amazing women are bloggers, business partners and more importantly friends. We’ve had so many friendships blossom from our creative passions.
You know these ladies hold a special place in my heart because on any other cold and rainy day, I’d be at home in the bed with my PJ’s working on my laptop and binge watching some show in the background. Thank you to Nekeyeta of @the_key2style and Laing of @JustLaing. for being amazing hosts and coordinating such a fun and needed event. We need to make time to hang out and catch up with our “gal†friends. We’re wives, ex-wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, business women and need to have a special time for us.
Friendship: It’s something that I don’t take lightly. We discussed friendship and what it means to us and how we navigate it in our lives. I learned so much and reflected on how I am as a friend. Just like “love languages†friendship can be received in different ways. You also can’t expect the same thing from everybody. I learned that some of my friends have different compartments for friends and that’s just where they fit. I never thought about it like that. I just know and don’t expect everyone to be like me!
Food: I must give a shout out to Laing for grilling Jerk Chicken in the rain! She prepared a Jamaican Feast to go along with our delicious chicken & waffles from Big C’s Waffles. He prepared red velvet, donut and blueberry waffles with fried chicken. It was truly a yummy experience! He even got us all the way right with some maple syrup and hot sauce to pair with our chicken & waffles. I’m so ready for more! Check out Big C Waffles. The Thin Mint Waffle (Just like the Girl Scout Cookie) is one of my favorites!
Drinks & Dessert: You’ll I was drinking Watermelon Moonshine! It was so good! I need that connect to get some more. Can you say cheers?!?! Leslie of sobesavvy.com had the Bedlam Vodka for everyone and created a Galentine’s Day Brunch Cocktail called the “Galentini”. I love a good cocktail and my liquor of choice is usually Rum or Vodka. The strawberry cupcakes from Southern Lady Sweets NC were so beautiful you didn’t want to eat them. The cupcakes were as delicious as they looked!
Fun: You know a bunch of bloggers can’t get together without some shenanigans! We danced and made a soul train line and modeled our PJ’s. We had an ongoing photoshoot throughout the entire event. We discussed hot topics and debated in addition to our main discussion on friendship. We talked about Black Panther and the upcoming release of the movie in theaters. That debate got heated when we spoke about the marketing behind the movie and the black dollar. That’s a whole other blog post!
Sponsors/Swag Bag: Everyone loves a goodie bag! Thank you to all the amazing sponsors that contributed to making this happen. Dark Rising Project, Noble Companion, BAABS Beauty Bar, Nailah’s Shea, Big C’s Waffles, Southern Lady Sweets, Bedlam Vodka, Hard Candy, belk, Crabtree & Evelyn London, Lit Cosmetics and Brio Italian Grille. We will continue to talk about our successful Galentine’s Day Brunch and how you took part in making it possible. Thank you again!
Conclusion: Galentine’s Day Rocks! You need friends in your life that are REAL and will tell you when you are wrong and call you out on your sh*t! You need LOYAL a** friends who you can count on. You need friends that you can call on to cry, laugh, just have a coming to Jesus conversation. You need friends who won’t judge you and bring you up not put you down. You need friends that you can PRAY with and let me tell you… These women have been all of that to me! I’m so blessed to have them in my life!
