I attended the Fall into Flavor with McDonald’s blogger luncheon, and I am so glad I did! I’ve been a HUGE McDonald’s fan and customer since childhood. I grew up next to McDonald’s being literally down the street from my house. I remember when McDonald’s had much smaller menu options. I don’t remember McDonald’s being just burgers and fries, but I know that’s how it was when they were first established. Modern day McDonald’s started to introduce many new items and healthier options on their menus. I always tend to eat on the go (especially when I’m working during the week) and I frequent McDonald’s regularly for lunch, so much that I’m the Mayor on Foursquare of a local McDonald’s location. When I’m at McDonald’s for breakfast, I eat a McChicken biscuit and a sweet tea. When I’m there for lunch I tend to get one of their Premium Chicken Sandwich value meals or a Premium Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken , Croutons, Caesar dressing and a McCafe Mocha Frappe. I won’t get started on my three year old, if he could have a Chicken McNugget Happy Meal for every meal of the day, he would!
At the blogger luncheon we had a session about balance, variety, and moderation with registered dieticians Lydia Lloyd and Sarah Plentl of Wake County. I don’t count calories but, on average adults need 2,000 calories per day which equates to three meals at 600 calories and two snacks at 100 calories each. I don’t eat breakfast every morning which is not good; don’t skip meals like I do. You’ll just pig out later and over eat because you’re so hungry. We can eat what we want to, the key is moderation. We should be eating every 3-4 hours throughout the day that will keep us energized. What we eat is also important. We should always try to have fruit, vegetable, grains, protein and dairy in a single serving. We also shouldn’t be consuming a tremendous amount of salt and sugar. When we aren’t home and we eat on the go McDonald’s has such a good range of menu options to help meet our nutritional needs even if we’re counting calories. I shared what I get on a regular basis and that works for me. You can never go wrong with a good salad or a fruit smoothie!
In the New Year McDonald’s will be rolling out some additional menu items to grace our taste buds. They’ll also be changing the happy meal a little bit. I don’t want to spoil the surprise but, we’re getting two additional flavors of oat meal and every happy meal will come with apple slices and a new cute little carton for the fries and the happy meal fries will be 100 calories total. It’s really nice to be able to eat on the go and know you have the option of ordering healthy choice food items in every category from entrée, to sides and beverages giving you an entire nutritious meal. If you’re in the Raleigh area, visit the 2613 Falls of Neuse Road McDonald’s location. My son fell in love with the play area, the entire room is a beautifully painted mural for the children to enjoy. Take a look at the last picture. It’s amazing! Thank you Carol Martin for a great experience in your establishment.
Well, it wouldn’t be right to talk about all this food without giving away some McDonald’s swag! I have a McDonald’s gift pack filled with an (Arch Card and BOG’s –Be Our Guest Cards) so that you can get your eat on!
