I was so excited when I heard that Durham was having a Tweetup. Design Kompany hosted this event along with Johanna Kramer a.k.a @Durhamfoodie, The Independent Weekly as media sponsor, Yelp NC, Triangle Tweetup and MotorCo Music Hall. The theme was “Media” how fitting as I’m the Marketing Coordinator for an alternative news weekly. So many print publications are using social media to drive stories online causing them to go viral. Social Media is definitely “New Media” and a FREE way to market your business, product, service, or story. I have attended Tweetup events before but, they took place in Raleigh or other surrounding cities and I live in Durham so this Tweetup was really special to me. I really enjoy events like this that allow you to meet new tweeple, network with local business owners, neighbors and gain new friends.
In order to follow the conversation throughout the evening you had to follow the hashtag #durhamtweetup There were questions posted all over the venue and we were able to tweet with the hashtag and converse on Twitter within the Tweetup event. There was a big screen up with the hashtagged tweets flashing across the screen, allowing everyone in the room to see the tweets. I enjoyed the local food trucks on hand to fill our bellies with GREAT food and the bar was open for business… I had a “Motorade” (Iced Tea Vodka w/ Lemonade) and loved it! I really had a good time meeting new tweeps and engaging with my community. I can’t wait for the next Tweetup event. Thank you to all the sponsors that participated to make this event a huge success. Durham Magazine staff was in attendance and snapped a few photos and I happen to be in the first one. Check out the Durham Magazine blog for the slideshow!
