This past weekend I had an opportunity to visit Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort with my family and we had such a great time. Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort is located conveniently next to the Carowinds theme park offering lodge, log cabin, RV and tent camping. This was my first camping experience and some might even call it GLAMping because of all the cabin amenities. I’m totally okay with this style of camping. We arrived on Friday evening and checked-in around 8:00 p.m. You can check-in as early as 3:00 p.m. and check-out is 11:00 a.m. on the date of your departure.
Each cabin has a living room space with a futon and dining area. There are two bedrooms. One bedroom has a set of bunk beds and sleeps four people. The main bedroom has a full size bed. The bathroom is equipped with a toilet, sink and shower. You have hot and cold running water and the water pressure is perfect. There is a kitchenette with sink, stove top range, utensils and appliances. I had everything I needed to prepare meals for the family. Your cabin comes with a Television with Direct TV, Heat, AC and Wi-Fi. I was able to relax in the evening and get work done with the TV playing in the background.
After we checked-In we went to the nearest Super Target to go shopping for our cabin and stocked the refrigerator. I liked the convenience of being 9 miles away from a shopping center and local restaurants. We were even given a list of restaurants when we checked-in that delivered to the resort. The registration area, general store and trading post are open until 11:00 p.m. so if you need anything you can call the front desk and someone will assist you. Once we were settled in for the evening I cooked dinner, we ate and watched television until we fell asleep. We had a huge day planned ahead of us!
Our alarm clocks were set to wake us up early because we wanted to make the most out of our weekend. Carowinds opened at 10:00 a.m. and would close at 10:00 p.m. We had plans to spend the entire day there and cover the entire theme park. I usually visit Carolina Harbor for the first half of the day and then we grab lunch, change and explore the rest of the theme park. This schedule works perfect for us because by this time the sun is going down and the temperature drops making it bearable to stand on lines for rides. I enjoy the water rides, slides and wave pool in 90 degree sunny weather.
It was super convenient to be able to leave Carowinds after we were finished exploring Carolina Harbor. It’s safe to say we got on every possible water attraction we could before we headed back to the cabin. We were less than five minutes away. We also had the option to drive our vehicle or having free shuttle service take us and pick us up. As season pass holders we didn’t mind driving ourselves to the park, we actually save on parking and had the option to come and go as we pleased. We were able to cool off and grab a bite to eat before our Carowinds Part 2 adventure began. We had a blast and shut the park down!
You can imagine that we were exhausted after that full day and to be less than five minutes away where we can just head back to the cabin, shower and relax in the AC was priceless. We got back and a light bulb had blown in the second bedroom so we called the front desk to report it and someone came immediately and changed the bulb for us. He was quick, friendly and very professional! Camp Wilderness is open year round. The pool is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Registered guests get discounted theme park tickets. Each cabin has a grill and picnic table outside.
Overall, I absolutely LOVED Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort and its amenities. I enjoyed the cabin. It was perfect and had a rustic feel to it. The registration area has a comfortable lounge for you to enjoy with games to play, television to watch or just sit by the fireplace and relax. There is also a free linen exchange service and 24 hour security. I didn’t need much more than groceries when I arrived. We had everything we needed right there. I even brought things that I didn’t use because I had access to it in the cabin. I had a great camping experience.
