I was excited at the opportunity to review The Logic of God by Ravi Zacharias. As a woman that grew up in a Christian household and was at church most Sundays for (Sunday School) service, Wednesdays for prayer meeting and/or bible study & Fridays for choir practice. My mother and grandmother made it a point to make my religion and spiritual life a huge priority. As I got older and grew in my spirituality, naturally I would have questions and doubts when it came to my faith.
In a quest to seek answers and gain clarity it needed to be logical and make sense to me. I’m at a point in my life right now where I am at a good place with my faith but, feel occasional pressure in my spirituality. The Logic of God offers 52 topics that can be read over the course of one year. Each topic includes a scripture, questions for reflection and some practical steps to apply. The contents are very thought provoking leaving you to reflect and ask yourself tough questions.
Ravi says, “I am convinced that Jesus Christ alone uniquely answers the deepest questions of our hearts and minds.†Ravi makes profound biblical truth easy to understand. Each chapter starts out with a bible verse and then dives into how it may impact our current lives. You gain clarity through the bible verses and using the reflection questions asked to gauge your understanding and help you formulate your answers to these questions. It’s great to answer a question you struggle with.
You can pace yourself and read as much or as little as you want at a time. When I first started reading the book I did one chapter per night but, I think it’s best to use it how it’s designed by reading a chapter a week and reflect on what you’ve read. Use the questions and personal application prompts to help you. “This book will take you on a journey for answers about exactly what you believe, what you don’t, and how you can reconcile your real-world doubts with genuine faith.â€
Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying The Logic of God. It makes you look at other religions and their beliefs. There are so many quotes that stand out to me but, this one is one of my favorites… “There is only one place in the world where love, forgiveness, and justice come together, and that is at the cross.†This truth of Christ’s grace is unique. “This graciousness and forgiveness are NOT found in other worldviews. For instance, Islam says that for you to get to heaven, your good deeds will have to outweigh your bad.
In other words, you pay. You even get to explore about Buddhism and other cultural religions. I can’t wait to finish reading The Logic of God. Ravi Zacharias is an amazing author.
