I was recently confronted with the task of possibly redesigning my blog, with that came the question do I revamp my logo also, which I will do! However this process will take me some time and deep thought about how I’d like it to be designed. I definitely want it to be the current color scheme that I have, and a design tweak to give it a fresh look. I just don’t want to do something rushed and have it look like it was just thrown together. I’ve seen some of those logos and they can hurt you more than they can help you!
I started to browse the internet and look at national companies that have recently re-branded their logo and there are some really good ones and then ones that I questioned. I honestly feel if you have a logo that works for you, it’s well known nationally, working on all of your marketing materials, you’re making revenue while making your bottom line and sales goals don’t touch it! I’m a firm believer in “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” A couple of these companies went back to their original logo!
I can definitely understand wanting to have a fresh look after many years and rolling with the modern times but, some things just need to remain untouched. Below I have listed some national companies that did some re-branding. There are pictures of the original logo and then the redesigned logo. I’m curious to see what your thoughts are… What would you think about if confronted with redesigning your blog or company logo? Would you go in a completely different creative direction or just revamp your existing logo?

You’re very talented and I look forward to seeing any changes you make.
I like the Intel and Tropicana logo updates. The others, not so much. (LOL)
Hi J,
Sometimes a logo re-design is necessary to convey a more clean modern style to fit the graphic style era, but in some instances like you showed like The Gap logo, some things just need to stay the way it was because it has become an iconic, simple, recognizable logo.
I think it’s good to keep your “look” updated and revise if needed but be careful, if your fan are use to seeing a certain logo you’re going to need to keep the same look or feel in your new logo. I dont like the new myspace or old navy look. It’s to different then what fans are use to seeing

I like the way you make your points. Well done. It’s amazing how fast the logo design industry is evolving and how logos are improving over the years.
I got into the logo design field very young. I did make some mistakes early on as a logo designer but I did learn from them. I don’t consider myself a guru but I will say I am pretty good. Thanks to the helpful tips and suggestions I received over the years from posts like these.
