I think that it is nothing less than AMAZING that Harvard University did this so that our less fortunate children from low income families can get a fair chance at receiving a prestigious education from one of the best Universities in the Country. It is mind blowing how many children are graduating from High School with high honors and don’t have the opportunity to attend one of the best Universities due to financial constraints or NOT receiving a scholarship.
Harvard University announced over the weekend that FROM NOW ON undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. In making the announcement, Harvard’s president Lawrence H. Summers said, “When only ten percent of the students in elite higher education come from families in the lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution.”
If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free… no tuition and no student loans!
To find out more about Harvard offering free tuition for families making less than $60,000 a year, visit Harvard’s financial aid website at: http://www.fao.fas.harvard.edu or call the school’s financial aid office at (617) 495-1581.
* Feel free to spread this message, every one of our children deserves a chance at receiving the BEST education that they WANT and NEED!
Isn’t this the best! I know that the other Ivy’s are doing the same thing… I think it’s WONDERFUL!
Yes Lord, because the approaching black cloud of college financing has been weighing heavy over my head. I hit 30 and realized “wow I have no house”, then I looked at my daughter and said, “wow in 6 years I have to pay for college”. Which should be my short term goal? Not saying that I would put all my efforts into this program but it’s nice to know that my principle’s honor role student can dream of attending an ivy league school without me shooting her down immediately with an “I don’t have it so make sure you do well”.
That is amazing!! What a wonderful thing to do… it just goes to show, there are still some great people living in this world with us!
I’m a new follower… saw your post about the Hebrew Better Than a Picnic post on BabyCenter. Very cool post!

Found you because you posted on that Izea post we got in email today.
Stanford is doing this, too.
The catch is you really do have to be in the top 1% like all the other students who attend. Their average ACT score for incoming freshmen is 34. My son made a 33 on the practice test at the beginning of his junior year, so he has half a chance. But Alg II is hurting his GPA
This is great news. I will be passing this on to others that have children that are amazing students and will be graduating soon. This gives them a very special hope.

I’m glad that they are continuing the program. They definitely get enough in endowments to afford it. As an Ivy Leaguer, I would have loved to have had it all paid for.
Following you now.
